History of Farm-Rite, Inc.
In 1966, Donald E. Strang and his brother, Stanley, founded Farm-Rite, Inc. when they purchased an Oliver tractor dealership in Shiloh, NJ. Donald managed Farm-Rite with six employees and added John Bean sprayers, fertilizer, lime, seed and chemicals to the line-up. Stanley continued to manage their original company, “Strang Transportation”, which hauled lime and fertilizer and spread the bulk materials in the fields. Their mission was to establish long-lasting relationships with the areas farmers by providing a high level of customer service and a one-stop shop for equipment and supplies.
Eight years later, Farm-Rite acquired the International Harvester and Cub Cadet dealerships. By 1978, the Strang brothers built a new 13,000 square foot facility just outside of Shiloh that included a main building plus outside storage.
Strang Transportation’s facilities in Bordentown and Elmer were sold in 1981, along with most of the company’s fleet. The remaining trucks, trailers and spreaders were brought to Shiloh. They believed that by combining the transportation division with Farm-Rite they would be able to focus on the core business and provide better and faster service for customers.
Things continued to grow and expand quickly after that merge. Farm-Rite partnered with Bauer, an Austrian manufacturer of irrigation reel travelers, pumps and slurry equipment that very same year. In 1985 they bought Owen Supply, an Oliver and New Holland dealership in Woodstown, NJ. By 1988 Farm-Rite had partnered with Valmont Irrigation to provide sales and service of Valley center pivots and linear irrigation systems. Combining the Valley line with the existing Bauer equipment allowed Farm-Rite to provide a complete array of irrigation systems to their customers.
Donald’s son, Donald C. Strang joined the company in 1989 as a salesperson and Service Manager until assuming his current position as President.
Kubota was added in 1994, providing a tractor line of under-100 hp tractors to complement the high horsepower and large-scale equipment already offered by Case IH. Netafim rounded out the irrigation supplies in 1995, offering tape, tubing, emitters, fittings, valved and filters allowing Farm-Rite to provide irrigation solutions for all aspects of agriculture.
In 2006, Farm-Rite opened a new Kubota location in Long Island. By September of that year, Farm-Rite of Calverton was fully operational complete with building infrastructure and staff. By spring of 2017, Calverton reached a total sale of 1,000 machines!
In January of 2016, Farm-Rite acquired Rodio Tractor Sales in Hammonton, NJ, a dealership that served the area for over fifty-three years. They kept the many brands Rodio offered and added a few more, including a full line of irrigation sales and service.
Fifty-one years later, Farm-Rite has over 50 employees, three locations, and remains committed to providing customers with a complete range of quality products and a high level of individual customer service. With new specialty lines like OXBO, BobCat, Nursery Jaws, Hardi, Jacto, Stihl, Kuhn, Billy Goat and larger lines like JCB and Woods, Farm-Rite continues to offer additional products and services to help our customers become more productive and profitable.
